What are the P&M Grants for?

The Production and Marketing Grant (PMG) is a conditional grant given to all districts in Uganda to implement functions of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) at the Local Government (LG) level.

The medium term objectives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) at the Local Government (LG) level are to:

Increasing agricultural production and productivity.
Improving access to critical farm inputs.
Improving agricultural markets and value addition in the twelve (12) priority commodities.
Institutional and enabling environment strengthening for agricultural development.

In line with the Inter-governmental Fiscal Transfer Reform Programme, allocations to Local Government are formula based. The Production and Marketing Grants are split into an Agriculture component and a Production component, with Wage, Non Wage and Development parts for each.
